EMS448-C-A94078 (40700116 ): Electronic Monitoring System/Controller. NEMA 4X Enclosure Mounted
EMS448(240).jpg The EMS448-C-A94078 Electronic Monitoring Systems/Controller is micro-processor based for monitoring and control of equipment functions. The basic EMS system is programmed for a typical industrial engine power unit. This unit is pre-programmed with Program #A94078, although custom programming is available to adapt the EMS to a wide variety of engine and equipment requirements. Basic programs provide auto-start/manual start and first-out shutdown for engine functions such as pressure, temperature, level and overspeed. Necessary time delays for startup lockout are included. Operating data is displayed on a 32 character back lit alphanumeric liquid crystal display. The EMS operating parameters are configured through a simple three-button interface. Access to the system memory is controlled by entry codes. A password-protected program uses built-in memory to display the alarm/shutdown history, including a display of the last ten shutdowns, when and why they occurred, and displays all of the engine operating conditions at the time of last shutdown. An on-board hourmeter keeps a log of equipment running hours and alerts you when to change oil, filters and perform other routine service. Ramp Oil pressure monitoring protects equipment at both high rated speed and low idle speed. The program features basic start/stop, engine warm-up/cooldown, delay on start/stop, automatic throttling, and prelube/glowplug functions.
This unit includes a timeclock, which is facilitated by a timekeeping RAM chip. This allows the unit to be field programmed to start/stop up to three times a day over a two week cycle.

SENSOR INPUTS:
Electric Gauge Senders: Accepts Murphy or equivilent resistance type senders.
Digital Inputs: Accepts three opto-isolated bi-polar inputs (positive or negative), typically wired to external shutdown switches. One additional input can be ordered and traded for one transisitor output.
Frequency Input: This optically isolated speed sensing input senses a speed signal from a magnetic pickup.

COMMUNICATIONS:
The EMS448 interface includes an RS485 serial port. By using the RS485 port and the necessary software you can monitor the status of your equipment from a remote location. A communications software package and an RS485 to RS232 converter are needed to interface with a PC (IBM compatible).

S449 RELAY BOARDS:
These relay output boards are used for additional relay contact capability. They require a ribbon cable with solder type, D-submarine connectors such as our optional EMS25CAR2 assembly. (see the Basic Models listing)

EMS MODES OF OPERATION:
The EMS448 monitors your engine/motor conditions and counts down the service reminders.
When a shutdown occurs, the fuel valve will turn off and the display will show the cause of the shutdown.
There are two standard modes of operation which can be configured in the S-Numbers:
Manual Mode: When this mode is selected, the EMS performs as a monitoring engine panel. It will alarm when faults are detected and initiate shutdowns based on shutdown switches and gauge senders. It will also remind you when service is required for your equipment.
Automatic Mode: In this mode, two of the shutdown inputs available in the Manual Mode are redefined. Instead of shutdowns for V-belt Break and Low Oil Level, automatic throttling inputs are available.

EMS448 INPUTS:
Analog Inputs: 8 inputs - accepts a variety of resistive sending units. Note: when resistive sending units - as opposed to 4-20 ma or 0-5 VDC- analog 0 is dedicated for battery monitoring.
Frequency Input: 1 optically isolated input for speed reference.

EMS448 OUTPUTS:
2 - Transistor digital: 125 mA sinking.
4 - Relay: 2-SPST, 5A @ 30VDC, 250 VAC*, 1/10 hp @ 120 VAC; (1) 2 - DPDT, 2A @ 220 VDC, 250 VAC. (1)
S449-1 Relay Board (optional)*: 6 - Dry Relay: 4-SPST, 5A @ 30 VDC, 250 VAC, 1/10 hp @ 120 VAC; (1) 2 - DPDT, 2A @ 220 VDC, 250 VAC. (2)
(1) One additional output can be ordered and traded for one digital input.
(2) One DPDT pole has common connected to battery+ N.O. available fused and unfused.
(*) Not Class 1, Division 2 approved.
